Chat At Kellanpublishing.com Jan. 28

On Sunday, January 28th, 2018, I will be hosting a chat hour from 4pm Pacific Time, or 11:59pm GMT. (Drop me a line with your time zone and I’ll figure it out, if you can’t.)

The topic of discussion, of course, will be Der Reizen, my first novel with Kellan Publishing, but I will try to answer all questions put to me.

This is a text chat, so bring your typing fingers and I’ll bring the coffee.

Fantastic blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?

I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress
or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
    Any recommendations? Many thanks!

There’s a lot of advice out there for writers. Some of it may work for you, some may not. Keep writing is one thought. Conversely, though, don’t force the words. There may be days when you can write thousands of words in the day. There are others when ten words are going to be difficult to find. Make the effort every day. You don’t have to work on the same project/story every day, if that’s the way it seems to be going, but try to write something every day.

The second piece of advice is: listen to your characters. It may only be your subconscious talking to you, but when things don’t seem to be according to your plan, check with your characters. They may be trying to tell you that you should be going in a different direction.

Blogs. They can be a good tool to get word out about your writing. They can also be a pain in the p’toot. If you have the money, go with your own domain name, hosting and something like wordpress. If not, wordpress has a freebie site that you can blog on.

Why wordpress? Of all the blogging programs I’ve tried, I find it to be the easiest to set up and the easiest to use. I can use html if I want, but I don’t have to do that. I can just type and be done with it. I don’t have to worry about what goes where. There have been days, come to think of it, when the only writing I’ve done is on my blog.

Write what works for you and then find an editor/beta reader willing to help out. Good luck.
